Having been busy planning our early retirement to Cuba we've come up with another plan....
We are looking into setting up our own small scale guitar and bass string company, charging more reasonable prices to ultimately benefit the musician.

Copy and paste your answers in please!

Location?:Tredegar South Wales

Guitar/Bass?:Fender Jazz Geddy Lee

What gauge do you mainly use?:45 - 105 roundwound.

What make do you mainly use?:Rotosound.

How much do you currently pay?:From £9 to £12.50 depending on how many packs are bought.

Would you be willing to try new strings or are you happy with your current purchases?:Yes, if they were priced at trade.

What special features would you like to see ie colours, coatings?:
I prefer Nickel or standard Rotosound, not into colors or coatings

How long do you ideally leave your strings on before changing?:
I use a new set for every new gig, If I've been recording I change them the moment they start losing the "new string sound" Maintaining the same tone is very important to my playing

Good luck with your string venture, if you need a player to try them out give me a shout!! cheers, Jase.

hey,

thanks for taking an interest in producing strings that could possibly be more bass player and bass player's wallet friendly. the strings i use mostly are the affordable ones that arent 100% ideal. the ideal ones are either not readily available or too expensive. i am more than happy to give you as much info or help as possible from a player. lemme start by answering these questions......

Age?: 36

Location?: west chester, pa. usa, planet earth

Guitar/Bass?: fender p , ibanez ergodyne edb 600 (95 original (not cnc))

What gauge do you mainly use?: heavy 45, 65, 85, 105 and i've used 110 sets when i can get them.

What make do you mainly use?: ghs boomers M3045(affordable), rotosound rs 66le (not always available in the us. they chew my frets up! studio use mostly.) ken smith MM-MH and MM-H (when i can afford or find them)

How much do you currently pay?: $20 to $30 usd.

Would you be willing to try new strings or are you happy with your current purchases?: i am always happy to try new, roundwound, heavy gauge strings.

What special features would you like to see ie colours, coatings?: most bass string companies only offer their companies stock cotton winding color or the color signifying a specific type of string set. the red rotosound uses is cool, but ... why not offer some custom color windings? multicolored? my p bass would look cool with black windings. the ibanez would look cool with gray or silvery colored windings. just a thought ... not a necessity.

i've tried those strings with the neoprene coating. yuk! they just feel funny. the coating makes them last longer? no it doesnt. this coating was all peeling off and hanging off the strings in two days and they lasted the same ... 5 weeks. they were really expensive ($45). i'll never buy them again.

i'm interested in trying the fender tapewound strings that they are offering ... just for something different.

How long do you ideally leave your strings on before changing?: 5 weeks

Guitar/Bass: Warwick corvet 5 string

What gauge do you mainly use: .045 .065 .080 .105 .128

What make do you mainly use: Blue Steel

How much do you currently pay: around $30 US

Would you be willing to try new strings or are you happy with your current purchases: I am happy with the ones I have but I would try something new

What special features would you like to see i.e. colours, coatings:
No colors or coatings. Waist of time. But im sure people would buy the colored ones.

How long do you ideally leave your strings on before changing: well I play very aggressively. I usually will break my G string after about 3 or 4 weeks, so my rule is "break a string change them all." or if I happen to be pour that month. I put new string on and boil the old ones and reuse.

Any other ideas/comments please feel free to add.
Taper the end. Allot of B-strings wont fit in the B-string spot on some bridges. (Mine do but the E string tends to be a tight fit.
Make round wound, or both. Round is defiantly more popular. I won’t play flats they just don’t feel right lol.

Never been here before..

I have a web site for musicians who are disabled. I am a paraplegic.

I use a 4003 Rickenbacker 4 string an American Fender Jazz bass and a Japanese Fender Jazz Aerodyne and love them all the Ric is the newset and I can't believe that I never before considered on.

I use a line 6 Low Down 150 watt 12"speaker and line^ LowDown Studio 110 watt 10" speaker and am astisified with both amps.
